Hello neighbors!
Welcome to The Albany Gazette – a celebration of everything that makes our little slice of the East Bay extraordinary. Whether you’re a third generation resident or someone who just moved here, we’re here to introduce you to the people, places, and businesses that make up our community.
Our slogan, Your 15-Minute Chronicle, represents the urban planning concept that everything you need for daily life - such as groceries, dining, healthcare, education, and recreation – should be accessible within a 15-minute walk or bike ride from your home. While cities around the world are spending millions trying to create this ideal, Albany has been quietly living it for decades.
Why Now?
We live in a world that’s feeling more divided every day but Albany remains special. We’re a community that survived a pandemic by supporting our local business, turned parking spaces into outdoor dining rooms, and pride ourselves for being a Sanctuary City that “recognizes the dignity and civil rights of all community members”.
Albany stands out as a place where you're more likely to bump into your kid's teacher at the wine shop, grab coffee from someone who knows your usual order, and discover that the person in line behind you at the grocery store has the most fascinating story to tell. The Albany Gazette is our love letter to those everyday connections that make Albany feel less like a city and more like the urban village by the bay.
